- ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪This year I was able to obtain Dental insurance for the first time in a few years. I researched all the dentists listed in my health plan's directory and chose Dr. Bruno based on the positive reviews. My first appointment was great, clean nice office and Dr. Bruno was very kind and empathetic. However I needed a root canal and had an infection so I had to take antibiotics and and a very LOW dose of 12 pain pills. By my 2nd appointment the staff informed me my insurance company wouldn't cover the all the fees for the 'speciality ' X-rays and procedure he wanted to perform and suddenly all he could do was a Brutal extraction with one shot of novocaine, pliers and a drill. It was so painful all I could do was crying without making a sound. The office informed me that if I could pay the full amount of all my dental work up front and in cash then they would be able to help me make a treatment plan, get rid of my pain and fix my teeth. However since I don't have the ability to pay over $1700.00 cash to fix one tooth, he accused me of Drug seeking and red flagged my file like a criminal. I contacted my insurance company to ask for advice. They referred me to Absolute dental to fix the issues that Dr. Bruno left, and told me to file an official grievance against him. My insurance and pharmacy have kept track of my medications and stated that I did NOT receive or ask for too much pain medicine at all and actually said they were over prescribing antibiotics and that's what I cannot refill anymore for a period of time. If you can afford to pay Dr. Bruno the money he requires for minimally adequate dental care, then he may be the right option. However, if their office deems you as being of low economical status they will treat you like a criminal and make future Dental offices very suspicious of Drug seeking behavior. I have never encountered that type of discrimination before and have been in so much pain ever since, I am so afraid to go to any dentist again.September 27, 2017by Amy Altman
